Project Overview

The Comfort INN project is a hospitality and entertainment development located in Alexandria, VA. Completed in 2019, the project involved a significant exterior renovation to modernize the property. Our Contribution

We served as the specialized glazing contractor responsible for the complete window wall scope. Our team managed the end-to-end procurement, logistics, and installation of the extensive systems. We coordinated the precise removal of existing facade elements to prepare the structural openings. The installation required exacting standards to ensure absolute water-tightness and air infiltration resistance. We worked closely with IHM Properties to ensure the final product aligned perfectly with their design vision.

Key Features

The project is defined by floor-to-ceiling window wall units that replace solid exterior masonry. High-performance insulated glass units were utilized to maximize energy efficiency and acoustic dampening. The system features slim-profile aluminum framing to create a sleek, contemporary exterior aesthetic. The glazing design dramatically increases natural light penetration into guest rooms and public spaces. The expansive glass offers improved views, significantly upgrading the interior ambiance for guests.

Challenges and Solutions

Retrofitting modern window walls onto an existing structure presented significant fitment tolerance issues. Solution: We conducted detailed field measurements to customize fabrication for exact fits. Working on an operational hotel site required minimizing noise and guest disruption to absolute minimums. Solution: We implemented strict phased work schedules concentrated during low-occupancy hours of the day. Maintaining weather integrity during the facade transition was critical to protect interiors.

Impact and Benefits

The new window wall system has drastically modernized the exterior appearance of the Comfort INN. Guest rooms are now much brighter and offer expansive views, elevating the overall guest experience. The high-performance thermal glazing contributes to reduced heating and cooling costs for property operators. The updated facade enhances the property's competitive advantage in the busy Alexandria hospitality sector. The project successfully extended the service life and increased the asset value of the property.
